Project Overview

Bechtel is among the most respected engineering, project management, and construction companies in the world. Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational projects improving the global carbon footprint on a path to net zero. The Bechtel renewables team will perform project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup for onshore renewable wind production throughout various locations in the US. The work location for this project is Marshalltown, IA. This position is contingent upon project award.

This is a Temporary (Short-Term) Assignment and may expand into future assignments on subsequent Bechtel Wind Power or other Bechtel Infrastructure projects.

Position Summary

The Field Engineer Civil will assist with the planning, organizing, and managing of specific field-related tasks within the assigned project. Will be responsible for controlling all QA/QC for Civil, Concrete, and WTG installation. Will work collaboratively to ensure safety and project quality; complete activities to meet customer satisfaction and project objectives. This position will report directly to the Lead Project Field Engineer and be an integral part of a high-performing, integrated joint venture project team. Responsible for maintaining a positive working relationship with owners, engineers, subcontractors and other project personnel

Responsibilities

  • Reviews project design/models and engineering documents (including bill of materials), to ensure their completeness, constructability, and readiness for construction.

  • Assists in planning construction methods and procedures, including the preparation of project schedules for labor, material, and equipment requirements

  • Prepares installation work packages for assigned scopes.

  • Prepares and/or reviews subcontractor submittals or requests, including field change documents and requests for information and coordinates appropriate responses.

  • Supports with verification of change notices and amendments.

  • Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule, providing input as required.

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases and inspects material upon receipt at site and identifies for maintenance and preservation as required.

  • Issues permanent plant material to craft professionals for field installation.

  • Reviews vendor material and equipment submittals to ensure conformance to project requirements.

  • Verifies received material quality and workmanship through inspection and review of documentation. Material to referenced against the drawings to assure conformance with drawings, quality requirements, specifications, design drawings, vendor and other technical documents.

  • Enforces and supports a Zero Accident Philosophy.

  • Supports the planning and safe execution of work ensuring alignment with the Safety Core Processes.

  • Prepares and performs inspections, tests plans and test procedures, and prepares inspection reports for assigned discipline/scope.

  • Ensures the installation and materials comply with contract documents.

  • Interfaces with construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.

  • Coordinates with design on constructability issues and coordinates engineering solutions with subcontractors, superintendents, and foremen.

  • Understands and ensures compliance with Industry / International Codes & Standards

  • Provides technical administration and supervision of assigned subcontracts.

  • Manage the closeout of work packages, including ensuring preparation of “as-built” drawings, and completion of construction defects.

Qualifications & Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree. Wind experience is preferred.

Additional Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to engineering, construction, and field activities.

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

  • Experience managing technical service subcontracts is desirable.

  • Experience in the development of detailed scopes of work.

  • Experience installing and inspecting large concrete foundations including excavation, formwork, rebar, embeds and backfill.

  • Strong organizational skills for tracking and monitoring all civil testing reports (concrete break logs, compaction testing, soil proctors, etc)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well within a joint venture environment, collaborate and support the JV partner to ensure project success.

  • Display effective communication skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans clearly and concisely.

  • Good working knowledge of codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME,etc.

  • Previous experience in the wind power generation industry preferable.

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
