Job Description

Location: Mason City, IA

Shift Requirements: Monday – Friday 8:00 am -4:30 pm – Flex schedule available. Some travel and overnights may be required.

As an Engineering Operations Technician (EOT), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer permits in the District 2 for work in Right of Way (ROW), utility placement, access, and other uses of the ROW.

  • Meet with applicants and complete field reviews as necessary to evaluate permits for compliance with policy, standards and Iowa Code and Administrative Rules.

  • Communicate with a variety of internal DOT staff to obtain necessary information and guidance and external customers to investigate inquiries and complaints.

  • Assist the District Utility Coordinator with review of final work plans for utility relocation on upcoming construction projects.

  • Assist maintenance staff with technical advice concerning construction methods and solutions for repair and assist with preparation of documents for accepting proposals.

    • Provide field support to other district staff which may include investigating ROW encroachments, measuring sight distances and no passing zones and other such tasks.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in highway construction, inspection, or surveying.

2) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in engineering, construction management, or a related field equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Construction Technician or Highway Technician Senior.
