Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for promoting improved patient care outcomes through coordinating effective orientation, education, evaluation and ongoing development of all support, technical and nursing colleagues. This is accomplished through a combination of direct patient care and unit based education responsibilities (approximately 50/50). This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care with the multidisciplinary team while using the nursing process and maintaining professional nursing standards.

What you will Do:

  • Coordinates and facilitates orientation activities in collaboration with preceptor, clinical leader and director.

  • Facilitates and provides educational and clinical experiences for colleagues to develop and maintain skills and competencies.

  • Serves as a validator, super-user, and/or trainer for annual competencies, equipment, processes, standard work, etc.

  • Maintains accurate unit-based education records.

  • Collaborates with director in the development and implementation of department education plan.

  • Collaborates with director to: Ensure educational outcomes of liaison meetings (i.e. skin care, safety, infection prevention, etc.) are completed, and serve as back up for liaison when needed. Ensure educational outcomes of nursing shared governance council meetings are completed and serves as back up for shared governance member when needed.

  • Serves as a UHC Nurse Residency Program facilitator.

  • Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Education Specialists, Clinical Leader, Director and Medical Director to identify, plan, implement and evaluate education requirements and activities.

  • Serves as a resource for regulatory, risk management and quality improvement activities to promote improved patient outcomes, patient and colleague safety, nursing professional development and growth.

  • Serves as a role model for professional nursing by demonstrating and promoting life-long learning and use of evidence-based practice.

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time 36hrs a week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing required

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa required.

  • BSN required, or willing to complete within 4 years.

  • Certification in area of practice (i.e. CCRN) required or willing to complete in 2 years (from the Magnet approved certification s).

  • Minimum of 3 years professional nursing experience.
