Responsibilities:

The Sales Manager position includes but is not limited to the following duties. Other duties may be assigned: 

  • Strong track record of achieving or exceeding sales goals, with one to three years experience selling for hotels

  • Promote and sell to group / SMERF market in the defined geographic region

  • Maintain and expand current group relationships and generate new leads for the business

  • Generate hotel and destination awareness through direct phone sales, direct sales calls, entertaining, tradeshows, and networking groups

  • Work closely with Director of Sales and Marketing, sales, and marketing team to solicit, sell and confirm group business required to meet budgeted sales goals

  • Possess the ability to solicit and secure group / SMERF travel

  • Display a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in decision-making and managing confidential information

  • Perform and follow up on all extra tasks, actions, and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Sales and Director of Marketing

  • Possess the ability to be a Public Ambassador for The Merrill Hotel

  • Work well within a team structure

Job Requirements

  • A College degree preferably specializing in hotel/event management or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • Excellent reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language

  • One to three years previous hotel experience, preferably in the banquet or event management area OR similar experience in the event planning industry

  • Strong selling and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and make decisions in a fast-paced, client-driven environment

  • Responsive to constructive feedback from hotel leadership
