Manufacturing Execution System Engineer

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, MES System Engineer, are to:

  • Partner with engineers, MES consultants and other professionals to analyze complex business processes and document MES system requirements;

  • Configure and test MES application changes according to Bayer coding standards and best practices;

  • Support day-to-day operation of MES applications;

  • Execute work as an individual or as part of a team;

  • Direct the work of MES consultants;

  • Manage multiple projects, tasks and responsibilities;

  • Prioritize opportunities/problems based on organizational impact and fit with key objectives;

  • Work with area process engineers to understand their information and automation needs to support process improvements;

  • Use plant data systems in creative ways to support those improvements;

  • Work with other system engineers to integrate data between MES layer applications;

  • Implement the most intuitive presentation of this data to make it easy for end-users to consume;

  • Develop detailed requirements for IT system/software implementations;

  • Create, review, and execute test plans to make sure solutions address business requirements and end user satisfaction;

  • Support development and improvement through participation on plant and corporate initiatives and committees (includes Six Sigma / LEAN);

  • Work with training resources to develop and deliver end-user training;

  • Support month-end financial closing activities, such as working with areas to reconcile inventories and understand variances;

  • Work on tasks as:

  • Duty/Responsibility;

  • MES Analysis / Configuration;

  • Programmer of location applications;

  • Project Management/Development;

  • Administrative Tasks;

  • Plant-Wide Initiatives/Committee Participation.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in an Engineering discipline, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field and 6 + years relevant experience;

  • SAP knowledge, primarily in material management, production process, and QA modules;

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills;

  • The ability to work well in a team environment and form strong networks & relationships;

  • Strong desire to learn and develop new skills related to technology and MES software systems;

  • The ability to work well within a culture that values diversity;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong customer focus;

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working within a manufacturing environment;

  • Knowledge of Simatic IT MES Platform, configuration and/or programming;

  • Knowledge of process optimization principles;

  • Working knowledge of business support systems (example: SAP)

  • Strong personal initiative and demonstrated decision making skills;

  • Experience with IT policy, standards compliance, and ITIL concepts;

  • Demonstrated skills in time management and ability to manage multiple assignments;

  • Experience with any of the following programming languages, standards, technologies, and frameworks: C#, Javascript, AngularJS, HTML5, VBA, SQL

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Six Sigma / LEAN practices

  • Working knowledge of ISA-95 manufacturing models;

  • Experience with administration of Aspen IP.21 and other Aspen manufacturing suite applications;

  • Ability to analyze business processes and translate them into technology implmentations such as software screens, reports, dashboards, and automation using Spotfire and SharePoint;

  • Basic understanding of computer networks and network communication.
