Job Title: Mechanical Designer/Drafter

Job Description

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for completing piping design and drafting duties related to all areas of the plant and associated engineering disciplines. This individual works independently on job assignments, taking basic project information and producing finished engineering drawings suitable for bidding and construction. Documents produced include engineering flow diagrams, civil drawings, detailed equipment arrangements, installation details, piping plans, piping isometrics, electrical drawings, miscellaneous construction, and as-built drawings. The design/drafter may be responsible for making project design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Civil and Mechanical system design decision making

  • Applying sound project design engineering principles

  • Ensure systems and equipment are designed and installed in accordance with regulatory standards

  • Assist with project reviews and system design

  • Review field installations to ensure compliance with design

  • Verification and completion of as-built drawings

  • Development of construction drawings

  • Work directly with Project Engineers, Project Planners, and Construction Field Coordinators to define project implementation requirements

  • Develop equipment and material take-off and specifications

  • Surveying and field verification as required to support project design

  • Develop site plans, equipment layouts, piping plans, and isometrics

  • Updating as-built drawings

  • Assist Project Construction Coordinator with construction activities as needed

  • Work with Project Planner to establish resources

Essential Skills

  • Excellent AutoCAD operating skills

  • 3D Design skills with Autodesk Inventor

  • Knowledge of surveying and field verification techniques

  • Understanding of mechanical and civil design practices and regulations

  • In-depth knowledge of design codes, standards, and regulations (OSHA, ADA, ASME, etc.)

  • Previous manufacturing experience with process-related equipment (pumps, piping, heat exchangers, etc.)

  • Capable of working independently

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Optional: Experience with Leica 3D Point Cloud Scanner and Leica Register 360 Software

  • 4 to 5 years of experience in piping layout design within a manufacturing setting

  • Associate degree in Drafting/Design Technology or equivalent

  • If no degree, 10+ years of experience in piping design

  • Good communication skills

  • Capable of making decisions independently

  • Strong personal initiative

  • Basic civil and mechanical engineering knowledge

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to work in a culture that values diversity in a self-directed team environment

Work Environment

This position requires working onsite at least 4 days a week. Expect to work around 45 hours a week. This position is in a manufacturing environment that requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs periodically, lift and carry 40 lbs, and access all areas of the plant.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00
