At MercyOne, you will manage and oversees the care delivered in the inpatient units of as well as oversight of the Care Coordination department and hospitalists. Develops and oversees performance improvement goals and plans. Provides leadership and mentoring to staff, promotes ongoing staff development and high quality nursing care which meets or exceeds customer expectations. Develops unit budgets and evaluates costs, revenue and departmental income. Develops and reviews unit staffing plans. Consults with staff, providers and administration to ensure patient needs are met.

The Inpatient Manager coordinates nursing activities to facilitate safe, quality patient care at the unit/department level, usually for a defined shift (such as days, nights, or weekends). Serves as a resource and role model and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to optimize department operations. Under the direction of the Director of Patient Care, may assist with other management responsibilities as assigned.

Essential job Functions:

  • Supervise unit/department personnel (RNs, LPNs, patient care technicians, etc.) during assigned shifts.

  • Facilitate efficient unit operations, staff assignments, and patient throughput.

  • Develop an annual operational plan aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.

  • Review and implement policies and procedures to guide services.

  • Adjust staffing and prioritize workload based on patient/unit needs.

  • Ensure a positive care experience for patients and resolve complaints.

  • Lead quality improvement activities and ensure evidence-based practices.

  • Ensure smooth operations and evaluate unit performance.

  • Manage unit budgets and make adjustments as necessary.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Licensure: Current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred, or actively pursuing a BSN.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years clinical experience.

  • Certifications:

  • Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers within 3 months (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
