POSITION SUMMARY: In conjunction with the MEDITECH counterparts, this professional nurse with experience in electronic medical record support is responsible to assist in design and enhancement of our Meditech clinical modules. The clinical analyst nurse combines clinical knowledge, patient care experience, and understanding of medical software to develop appropriate workflow. Duties include serving as a liaison among clinical leaders, end-users and project managers with a focus on consistent and ongoing customer support in order to achieve satisfaction, efficiency, and accuracy when using the electronic medical record.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participate on project teams to ensure completion of work in accordance with established project timelines. Communicate updates on project tasks to manager and other team members.
Provide input on project teams to develop best practices for EMR use with attention to patient privacy and detail.
Analyze system functionality and determine how it can be utilized within our facility to maximize the delivery of quality patient care.
Present automated options, where applicable, to enhance operation and/or improve efficiency of clinical modules. This requires understanding of the flow of data through the Meditech architecture and an appreciation for the consequences that erroneous data could have on patient care.
Solicit and evaluate input from all computer users in the clinical departments to take full advantage of the benefits of information technology.
Prioritize and simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects.
Identify and assist in the resolution of issues arising in the clinical modules and issues that overlap clinical departments and provider modules relating to the set-up and operation of the hospital information system
Test or oversee the testing of all software updates for the clinical modules.
Work with the other Clinical Informatics staff to ensure a consistent approach to software development is followed
Review and test custom software fixes for appropriateness and completeness. Perform change control according to hospital policy for test and live software rings.
Active involvement in the development of a training program for end user training when needed
Attend appropriate meetings and training sessions related to Meditech clinical modules
Availability for call during off-hours on a rotating basis with others in department when fully trained
EDUCATION: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or five (5) years of clinical experience in a hospital setting preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years Clinical Informatics or IT experience. Implementation and/or support experience with Meditech's clinical modules. Healthcare experience with a significant exposure to and knowledge of hospital and clinical environments, including workflow and physician/provider ordering practices. Project implementation skills are a plus. This position will require interaction and communication with healthcare providers and clinical staff in hospital and clinical office settings.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: Self-motivated, able to learn quickly, and attentive to detail. Ability to work independently and with individuals from all levels of the organization. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Strong customer service orientation. Knowledge of clinical concepts, common clinical terms, clinical procedures, and workflow. Advanced analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. Proficient computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
LICENSURE: Current Iowa license as a nurse or appropriate licensure for related health care field.
