Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Utility Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of all utility systems within the food production plant. This includes ensuring the efficient and safe operation of boilers, refrigeration systems, HVAC, water supply and treatment, building and grounds, and other utility services. The Utility Supervisor will be responsible for work within the utility department and work closely with other departments to support production needs. This position has the responsibility to always comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote, and foster Michael Foods culture, values, and principles. Assume personal responsibility to adherence to plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards, and following all GMP guidelines. Ability to conduct investigations, and report communications accurately of all incidents and work-related injuries. Directly supervise a team of maintenance professionals. Conducts timely and thorough performance management evaluations within the spirit of the program. Proven ability to lead change in a cross-functional environment. Go over all projects to pre plan a schedule and a budget summary, present to Maintenance Manager for approval. Utility Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the activities of utility technicians and maintenance staff. Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of all utility systems, including boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, air, building and grounds, and water treatment. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Monitor utility usage and implement strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce cost. Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with utility systems in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs. Coordinate with production and other departments to ensure utility systems meet operational needs. Train and develop utility technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge. Planning and Scheduling Responsibilities: Update and Maintain SAP Database through planners. Ensure execution on Maintenance workflow process through partnership with maintenance supervisors and gate keepers. Assist with asset technical knowledge and SAP Master Data which includes Procedures, Specifications, BOM’s, Drawings, etc. Involved in Facility Maintenance budget and capital planning process and is responsible for using maintenance and reliability principles to improve the facility costs and productivity. Preventative and Predictive Program Responsibilities: Supplies input for Preventive Maintenance program optimization, and content. Executes the maintenance department Predictive Maintenance (Pd.M.) Program, Precision Program which includes the verification of vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasonic, and motor circuit analysis. Works with maintenance and operation teams to improve knowledgebase, techniques, and procedures supporting equipment reliability. Provide feedback and findings for root cause analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance to create an environment of continuous asset reliability improvement. Supply support for equipment upgrades, major restorations, obsolescence conversions, continuous improvement engineering solutions. Collaborate with other Maintenance & Reliability teams (internal and external) to share in benchmarking, best practices, etc. Provide occasional off-hours critical equipment technical support in 24/7 operations. Ensure regulatory compliance at all times. Participate in or facilitate plant audits as needed. Participates as an active member of a plant safety element team. Ability to travel for business duties as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: EDUCATION: Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, or significant experience in another related engineering/technical field preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Plant Maintenance & Reliability Engineering or similar technical role Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional teams. Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) Demonstrated experience with industrial utility systems Experience using root cause analysis, and predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, infrared, acoustic emissions, tribology, etc. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical equipment and systems (e.g. pumps, fans, dryers, bearings, seals, etc.) PRFERRED Experience in Continuous Industrial Processing and Equipment is preferred over discrete manufacturing. Knowledgeable in the use of SAP Maintenance or another EAM/CMMS. Experience implementing TPM/Lean based continuous improvement in manufacturing environment. Knowledge of industrial environmental requirements LANGUAGE SKILLS: Good oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in both one-on-one and group situations. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distances. REASONING ABILITY: Strong negotiation skills and conflict resolution to create a win-win. Be able to think through relatively complex issues and arrive at well-thought conclusions. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills. Listens to others and adapts communication style and content based on audience. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with all team peers and customers. Able to impact and effect positive change. Ability to be flexible to shift prioritizing in a constantly changing, fast-paced work environment.
