OGDEN COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT HS Assistant Boys Wrestling Coach in Ogden, Iowa

Job Overview: Ogden is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Coach for the boys high school wrestling team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Coach and other assistant coaches to develop and implement training plans, assist in the overall development of the wrestling program, and ensure a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach in organizing, planning, and executing daily practices and training sessions.
  • Provide individual and group coaching to athletes, focusing on skill development, technique, and match preparation.
  • Help manage the physical and mental conditioning of athletes.
  • Aid in planning and coordinating team events, including competitions, tournaments, and travel arrangements.
  • Help maintain and enforce team rules, discipline, and academic eligibility requirements.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of athletes, encouraging their involvement in the program.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to analyze team performance and make adjustments to training plans as necessary.
  • Assist in the management of team equipment and facility setup.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of all athletes during practices, competitions, and other team activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting sportsmanship, respect, and accountability.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with athletes, parents, and the athletic department.
  • Attend staff meetings, coaching clinics, and other professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Previous wrestling experience (preferably at the high school or collegiate level).
  • Coaching experience, preferably at the high school or youth level, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of wrestling techniques, training methods, and rules.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the coaching staff, athletes, and parents.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Background check required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and participate in practice activities.
  • Ability to travel for away competitions and events.
  • Ability to lift and carry wrestling equipment as needed.
