Description
Musco Sports Lighting is currently seeking a Technical Illustrator to work on our Technical Publications team in Oskaloosa, IA. As part of our Research & Development division, this position is responsible for creating illustrations for patent applications and publications to visually describe our products and processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Create technical illustrations that visually describe the product or process and support the written specification of the patent application.
Execute drawing standards required by the US Patent Office and foreign patent offices.
Recommend content and layout of illustrations based on the review of invention concepts and written patent application.
Lead efforts to implement best practices relating to patent illustrations
Create technical illustrations that visually describe the product or process for various publications, e.g. product labeling, installation and assembly instructions, product datasheets, and technical bulletins.
Recommend content and layout of illustrations based on proposed use and details of product or process.
Create artwork for product labeling to be used in the printing process by the label vendor.
Responsible for inspections of label samples from the vendor to assist the Quality team.
Lead efforts to implement best practices relating to technical illustrations.
Assist with data-driven publications by developing code (e.g. XML, Javascript) to automate document creation and outputs.
Responsible for management of development, communication, and scheduling aspects relating to illustration projects
Work with product engineers to gather product details needed for technical illustrations.
Work with Patent Agent/patent writer(s) to understand illustration needs to support patent applications.
Work with a technical writer(s) to understand illustration needs to support product labels and publications.
Collaborate on illustrations for Marketing publications
Address label quality concerns
Desired Qualifications and Skills
This position requires an Associate Degree in a technical discipline and 2 years of experience creating technical illustrations for patents and technical publications for a product-based company
Strong technical aptitude to understand engineering principles and technical aspects of inventions relating to lighting, electrical, and optics
Must have the ability to simplify technical issues in a clear, concise, and accurate manner using visual illustrations
Must be proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign software
Experience using AutoCAD software and Inventor.
Experience writing XML language or scripts to automate publication processes
Creative with good sense for layout and color schemes
Good verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work with foreign languages as text in illustrations
Good organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects
Understanding of illustrations, part, assembly, and weldment drawings
Good project management skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Understanding and adherence to company culture
Knowledge of company products and principals of lighting, electrical, and optic system
