Indian Hills Community College Lab Assistant, Science Labs in Ottumwa, Iowa
Job Summary:
This person will prepare solutions, maintain cultures, set up materials for labs, conduct inventory, provide routine cleanup and assist students in conjunction with the science faculty in the laboratory.

Minimum Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience with laboratory procedures required (i.e. microbiology, biology, chemistry, physics).
Must be able to prepare solutions and growth media, transfer and maintain cultures of microorganisms.
Must be able to assist and supervise students in a lab setting.
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
Work Performed:
Prepare and set up materials for teaching laboratories in microbiology, biology, chemistry, and physics.
Prepare and maintain axenic cultures of bacteria & fungi.
Prepare chemical solutions, growth media, and molecular biology reagents.
Order, maintain, and control inventory of supplies and equipment.
Provide routine cleanup in the lab area.
Assist lab instructor as directed by lab instructor.
Provide access to and scheduling of laboratory equipment maintenance.
Maintain plants, animals, and other collections.
Supervise work study students.
Maintain MSDS information.
Manage hazardous waste from teaching laboratories.
Maintain lab safety equipment.
Maintain compliance with USDA permits for microorganisms.
Other duties as assigned.

7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday-Thursday
Hourly Rate:
$16.97-20.66
