1 - First Shift
The Machining Training and Development Specialist assesses, designs, develops, and provides classroom and hands-on training for production machinist and specialist roles. This role has direct oversight of machining training to equip our team members with valuable knowledge that prepares, empowers and trains them toward a successful career at Vermeer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
Lead the training function for all machinists through a combination of classroom, hands on, and production floor training.
Evaluate internal and external applicants for machining positions. Direct knowledge and production assessments to help Talent Acquisition in the hiring process.
Consult with stakeholders to assess the candidate's learning needs and develop plans based on those needs and directional alignment.
Design and deliver training curriculum with content experts within the organization on assigned products, including all support materials, while maintaining a professional training environment. Use adult learning methodology to create, develop, and format training materials, for a variety of delivery methods.
Develop and maintain continuous education opportunities to help machinists learn and grow as their career develops to meet the needs of Vermeer.
- Engage classroom participants in the training while evaluating if learners are comprehending the material. Adjust the material as needed.
Education and/or Experience
Associate’s degree in machining or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in machining preferred.
Minimum six months related experience and/or training.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of machining processes, lean principles, adult learning methodology, human performance technology, education, facilitation, evaluation, test construction and analysis.
Ability to read blueprints.
Knowledge and ability to set up and operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment. Equipment may include, but is not limited to, CNC machining centers and lathes, press brakes and lasers.
Calculate figures and apply concepts of fractions, percentages, and ratios.
Apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and statistical quality control.
Ability to develop new and quality training presentations and ideas and effectively manage projects.
Ability to provide informative professional assistance when working with the public/customers and coworkers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
Ability to respond to continually changing priorities to meet customer demands.
Ability to take complex topics or tasks and break them down for the learners and effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Ability to engage all classroom participants in the training, evaluate if learners are comprehending the material, and adjust the material as needed.
Ability to work with subject matter experts within the organization to develop quality training programs that meet customer needs and expectations.
Ability to negotiate with external individuals in order to obtain the appropriate resources needed in order to develop and facilitate training programs.
Ability to hold trainee’s accountable to all safety and quality standards associated with machining.
Up to 10% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
