1 - First Shift
The Materials Manager ensures the department provides quality, cost-efficient purchased items that are delivered on time. This role works with engineering by communicating supplier issues and assisting in selecting the appropriate supplier on new model machines. This position plans, orders, and expedites material to Vermeer and may negotiate supplier stocking agreements. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing receiving and warehouse teams in our manufacturing facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Lead through the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors. Manage assigned team members in performance of their duties. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization’s business strategies and objectives and ensure department is properly serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.
Ensure customer needs are met including, but not limited to, ordering parts, expediting, resolving inventory and invoicing accuracy. Align closely with internal customers (operations, warehouse, engineering) to understand customer needs.
Analyze inventory levels and look for ways to reduce levels without causing production problems.
Assist in developing short- and long-term planning requirements, by attending engineering and production meetings.
Support commodity teams and cost savings projects. Play a lead role in improving lead times from suppliers.
Work with plant leadership team to improve material flow throughout the plant.
Drive lean initiatives and ensure all areas under materials control meet expectations for 5S.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ management and procurement experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Other Skills and Abilities
Strong purchasing and negotiating skills.
Ability to manage inventory levels, reduce lead times, reduce prices, ensure on time delivery, Kaizen participation and policy deployment.
Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers, and co-workers, and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.
Demonstration of good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate and work with individuals at all levels of the Organization.
Ability to speak to large groups of people.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
CPSM certification, CPIM certification or working towards certification.
Up to 5% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
