PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Product Design Coordinator will be responsible for managing and overseeing the drafting workflow between internal teams and external vendors for CAD drafting services. This position plays a key role in ensuring that all drafting projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and efficiency requirements while fostering collaboration and effective communication between sales, engineering, drafting, and third-party vendors. The Product Design Coordinator will also be tasked with troubleshooting issues, ensuring compliance with company CAD standards, and maintaining a streamlined drafting process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

More specifically, the employee will:

  • Assist Product Designers and CAD Specialists in completing their work by facilitating communication to other departments and utilizing outsourcing CAD services.

  • Before processing work, verify specifications and information provided. When appropriate, solicit supervisory support to assure discrepancies are resolved at the proper time.

  • Delegate and oversee the workload of outsourced drafting services.

  • Before transmitting finished work, review own work and/or work delegated to assure specifications and information have been processed correctly.

  • Recognize opportunities to improve CAD tools, services, and systems. Proactively communicate observations to supervisor(s) and assist in implementation of improvements.

  • Use CAD and Solid Modeling software for designing, detailing, drafting, and modeling products when workload requires it.

  • Provide CAD services to support the implementation of product enhancements, extensions, creations, and cost reductions.

  • Update, maintain and archive records utilizing Engineering Departments document control systems.

  • Recognize the need, and solicit support from Product Engineering to maintain product’s structural integrity.

  • Train others on products, processes, and procedures.

  • Support customers and all other areas and departments with product knowledge and CAD expertise.

  • Domestic and International travel may be required. (less than 10%)

  • Continually participate in additional training related to the job.

  • Perform extra assignments in other areas and related task assignments in the work area.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient or capable of acquiring proficiency in Auto-CAD, SOLIDWORKS and PDM software.

  • Must have technical comprehension skills to read and understand requirements from specifications, drawings, instructions, and other design input information.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software

  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrate the ability to adjust problem solving approaches in response to changing business needs and priorities.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating resilience and the ability to perform under pressure.

  • Proven track record of building rapport with team members and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.

  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrate regular, consistent attendance

EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or

  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, repetitively use right and left hand for simple/light grasping, and repetitively use right and left hand for fine dexterity. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and repetitively use right and left hand for firm/heavy grasping. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear alarms of equipment, hear customers, and to hear instructions from others.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an office and outside at facilities.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually MODERATE.

  • Employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work in high precarious places, fume, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, worldwide weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration.

  • Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and ear plugs in production areas or at customer facilities. Other PPE required in some customer facilities.
