Green Hills AEA Early Childhood Specialist in Red Oak, Iowa

Qualifications: The Early Childhood Specialist will meet state of Iowa requirements for current teacher licensure to work with young children with disabilities from birth through age 6 years. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, through various methods, with students, teachers, colleagues, administrators, support personnel, parents, and outside agencies. Minimum of Bachelor Degree required
Must have one of the following endorsements with BOEE:
PK-K Early Childhood Special Education - 223
PK-3 Teacher, Regular Education/Special Education - 100
PK-K Early Childhood Special Education - 262
Essential Functions:
Support child-find activities and public awareness initiatives by providing information to the general public about child development, disabilities, and early intervention; maintain contacts with referral sources.
Organize and provide developmental screening services for targeted groups of children. Interview the family and staff from other involved agencies to obtain a description of concerns for the development of the referred child, complete screening activities, and orient family to the assessment process.
Provide developmental assessment or curriculum-based assessment services for referred children and write a comprehensive report of findings.
Plan and implement interventions by participating in the IEP staff/conference process. Develop goals and objectives and/or outcomes in collaboration with parents. Monitor the childs progress to determine the effectiveness of intervention.
Plan and implement appropriate transition activities to support children and families as the need for changes in the childs educational programming becomes apparent.
- Provide support and develop interagency collaboration to assist families in obtaining early intervention and other services they need to support the development of their child.
Assist the staff employed by Green Hills Area Education Agency and the educators throughout the AEA in a program directed toward the prevention, early identification and remediation of disabling conditions.
Provide assessment and intervention services for referred children and families designed to assist multidisciplinary teams in identifying appropriate special education programming.
Regular attendance is required
Establish and maintain community-school relationships and work cooperatively with community agencies to achieve and maintain continuity of services for the children and families served.
Assist the Green Hills Area Education Agency administration in any matter which may command priority and bring to their attention issues of concern regarding early childhood special education services and programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
