JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety Technician will be a team member advocate on the floor responsible for but is not limited to; promoting, coordinating, and maintaining ergonomics and safety practices; serving as a resource for team members on ergonomic and safety questions; participating in Safety Team meetings at designated site; and working with individuals and teams on related issues. This role will include 80/20 split of time spent on the floor with production (80%) and time spent in the office working at a desk/safety admin activity (20%).

Starting Pay: $22 - $25/hour based on experience

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Be the technical expert on the floor for safety related troubleshooting, concerns, and SWARM activities. This can include on the spot activities with SWARMs or other issues that may arise throughout the shift.

  • Solicit and organize safety improvement ideas from production employees and the safety committee.

  • Provide front-line solutions for safety issues related to tools, equipment, or processes on the floor to ensure all team members are working safely. These solutions can be related to connections with our products on the floor to help and design new solutions for a safe way of working.

  • Participate on the purple ticket process for safety opportunities to bring them to resolution. This includes managing the purple ticket board, ticket movement, managing the floor resolution and closure of the tickets.

  • Daily inspections of work areas on housekeeping and 5s. Partnering with operations to address any gaps related to 5s.

  • Bring awareness to the benefits of our team members working safely to help operations leadership drive engagement and accountability.

  • Work with teams on safety concerns, monitor progress, and follow up with teams and provide them feedback.

  • Orient, develop, and educate employees on safety issues, concepts, dynamics, processes, and techniques.

  • Act as a back-up training for technical on the floor training related to pallet jacks, cranes, fall protection, forklift, etc. Be a designated lead trainer with new hires frontline training.

  • Act as the liaison between the production team members and operations/EHS leadership to interrupt training on the floor as an operator and be a key SME in providing information to ensure it translates between formal training and the work being conducted on the floor.

  • Serve as a resource on various aspects of safety within the site.

  • Conduct safety plant health risk assessments.

  • Participate in the Facility Safety Team meetings.

  • Actively participate in incident investigations under direction and guidance of Operations and EHS leadership.

  • Partner with leadership to coordinate efforts on approved projects (i.e. glove requirements, new tool training, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of applicable position experience or an evaluated equivalent.

  • Must attend OSHA 30-hour training and successfully complete the exam.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) + years of internal experience as a SME in area of expertise or team lead.

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with 5s, lean, and general EHS concepts.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to fill in on the floor in SME capacity on a limited basis if needed for extenuating circumstances.

  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and ability to become proficient in their use.

  • Detail oriented and quality focused.
