Trinity Health Patient Safety Attendant in Sioux City, Iowa

Description:

Under direct supervision, is responsible for one-on-one continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patient. Remains with and observes assigned patient at all times and notifies the nursing staff if the patient requires additional assistance or other nursing intervention.

Shift: Days 7am-7pm

Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours), must be able to work every other weekend (including Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays), must be able to work rotating holidays

What you will Do

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.

  • Receives shift change report from RN, previous Patient Safety Attendant and/or CNA regarding patients’ anticipated behavior and safety risks. Hands off information to the next shift RN, Patient Safety Attendant or CNA.

  • Introduces self to patients/families and explains that they are there to assist in maintaining a safe environment.

  • Remains with and observes the assigned patient at all times. Arranges meal and break time with the patient’s RN or CNA so that the patient is never unattended.

  • Serves meal to patients. Does not feed patient. May cut up foods and open containers.

  • Utilizes the call light, immediately notifies nursing staff if the patient requiresassistance, exhibits changes in behavior, or requires other nursing interventions.

  • Remains alert at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or GED is preferred but is required if in emergency department or behavioral unit. Prior patient care experience preferred.

  • Must be available to work on short notice.

  • Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.

  • Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.

  • Must maintain Mandatory Reporter, to be obtained within 3 months of employment.

  • Must maintain Violence Safety/HARP, to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
