Description:

Under limited supervision, provides leadership to organizational wide patient care areas ensuring the quality of care and optimizing operational effectiveness. Utilizes skills in assessing, planning, organizing and evaluating the provision of patient care. Evidence system thinking, initiates improvement strategies, promotes employee development and works collaboratively. Is responsible for administrative duties 24 hours per day, seven days per week and holidays.

What you will Do

  • Reflects the skills, knowledge and abilities that individuals use as they serve in the role of a leader.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.

  • Makes decisions based on knowledge, experience and the ability to forecast using information management and relevant data.

  • Promotes practices to maintain an efficient and effective work force through staffing model development recognizing patient needs, and competence of the staff, gives employees appropriately challenging assignments.

  • Assigns staff to nursing areas based on patient need and utilizes the staffing guidelines appropriately.

  • Provides leadership and promotes staff involvement in continuous quality improvement activities. Conducts on-going quality management by identifying quality assurance issues and coordinating action and follow-up. Spots problems, opportunities, threats and trends early. Conducts safety rounds and infection control rounds for all areas of the hospital and documents findings.

  • Ensures risk management principles and practices are implemented. Establishes and\or ensures staff adherence to standards and regulatory agency requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Is a Registered Nurse maintaining a current Iowa license. B.S.N. required.

  • Requires a minimum of three to five years relevant work experience. A minimum of one to two years of management/supervisory experience preferred.

  • ACLS, BLS, SAFE required, or will complete within six months of hire.

  • Excellent interpersonal/clinical skills to interact effectively and demonstrate sound decision making in a fast paced, intense environment.

  • Ability to quickly build rapport and effectively collaborate with individuals of all backgrounds, experience and educational levels.

  • Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.

  • May be requested to travel within the Siouxland region. When assigned to travel, a valid driver license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel.
