This position provides supervision skills and effective leadership for the day-to-day operations of the medical group coding team. Coordinates the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, auditing and monitoring all the activities for areas of responsibility to include coding, compliance and charge entry.

This position reports to the Western Iowa Region MGPS Revenue Cycle Operations Manager.

Position Purpose:

This position provides supervision skills and effective leadership for the day-to-day operations of the medical group coding team. Coordinates the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, auditing and monitoring all the activities for areas of responsibility to include coding, compliance and charge entry.

What you will Do:

  • Researches and identifies coding opportunities within the network and works with providers and coders to achieve desired results.

  • Works with coders to provide face-to-face education for providers in a clear and professional manner; monitors effectiveness of education.

  • Oversees the development and maintenance of training materials, policies and procedures.

  • Develops productivity and quality standards for coding medical record documentation and assigns coders accordingly.

  • Works closely with clinic managers to schedule formal coding education with providers and to assure coders working within the clinics are integrated into the department.

  • Investigates the use of new codes and provides information to clinic administration, providers and coders. Assists clinic managers in determining codes for new services and assures the codes are available in the billing system.

  • Works collaboratively with coders, billers and providers to analyze and resolve claim rejections and denials related to coding and approves all account adjustments due to coding issues.

  • Ensures compliance with OIG, CMS, State and Federal regulations on coding and billing, and performs account audits to validate compliance.

  • Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPAA regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires an associate degree or would consider 2 years of related experience in lieu of every year of formal education.

  • Requires a minimum of five years' experience in Professional/Clinic Coding. Current coding certification.

  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience as a manager or supervisor of a coding team.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office programs and have experience with financial reporting systems.

  • Must be highly proficient in knowledge of computers and applications applicable to health information management, hospital functions (online learning, timekeeping, etc.) and Microsoft Office required

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to prepare and analyze financial statements, supporting work papers and reports.

  • Requires strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
