Position Purpose: Under limited direction of the supervisor and with medical direction of the radiologist, carries out appropriate ultrasound procedures and maintains related records; provides general assistance to the radiologist in interpreting films and provides technical instruction to students and hospital staff. The scope of practice includes those procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience and has demonstrated competency in the standard of practice of ultrasound.

What you will Do:

  • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.

  • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.

  • Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.

  • Coordinates work schedule with scheduling desk to assure workload coverage. Willingness to adapt to changes in workload, procedures and schedule.

  • Maintains a daily log of patients seen, completes exam verification for billing purposes, and performs related clerical duties as required.

  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies, and monitors outdates. Reports equipment failures to the appropriate staff member.

  • Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and discusses findings with the radiologists.

  • Participates in instruction of student technologists, and provides general education to hospital staff in ultrasound procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be RDMS eligible.

  • Must pass general sonography boards (Abdomen or OB) within 1 year in this position.

  • Must pass vascular boards within 1 year in this position.

  • Prefer prior sonographer experience.
