Hours 6:00 am - 6:30 pm

Jack Links is seeking a Shag Truck Driver to add to our team at the distribution center in Underwood, IA. The Shag Truck Driver plays an essential role within the Jack Links Distribution Center.

This position is responsible for maintaining a smooth and accurate flow of trailers to the docks while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to company policies and procedures. It requires using a shag truck to move semi-trailers and backing them into designated loading docks and parking areas. This position will also assist on the dock, loading, and unloading as needed or as time permits.

The Shag Driver will also keep the drop/staging lot organized, including maintaining a correct inventory within the lot and ensuring all trailers are sealed within the lot. This position will also perform other duties, as directed by leadership, as well as participate in various areas to ensure the overall effective function of the distribution center.

 

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Maintain required safety and ergonomic processes to ensure a safe working environment and meet the company goal of an injury free workplace.

  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to leadership any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.

  • Performs daily maintenance check / equipment inspection of the shag truck as required by USDOT rules and regulations. This involves written documentation that is turned into the supervisor.

  • Performs daily yard check as directed for loaded and empty trailers.

  • Ensure product is stored at the appropriate temperature following the company’s guidelines.

  • Moves/spots all trailers as directed. Must be able to spot the correct trailers in the correct docks.

  • Keeps equipment clean and orderly, assisting with general housekeeping to maintain food safety standards.

  • Assists on the dock, loading and unloading trailers as time permits.

  • Has proficient knowledge of the process to facilitate and assist with the optimal flow in and out of the DC.

  • Must be courteous, cooperative, and respectful always. Contact the immediate supervisor to manage any conflicts that may occur.

  • Maintain a high focus on providing excellent customer service to our internal and external customers.

  • Self-reliant and able to accurately work under limited supervision.

  • This is a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift dedicated position although flexibility to work all shifts, including weekends, is required when necessary.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

     

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a distribution center with an emphasis on equipment operation, material handling, and shipping/receiving experience. Overall understanding of distribution center processes.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions, and acquire basic mathematical skills.

  • Above average communication skills, typically utilizing a radio.

  • Experience working in a challenging environment with the ability to manage stressful situations while maintaining company guidelines.

  • Experience with material handling equipment.

  • Organizational skills

  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.

  • Experience yard switching and/or tractor trailer experience required.

  • Requires mechanical aptitude and the understanding / use of basic hand tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Tasks include standing, walking, bending, stretching, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and reaching. The position will climb in and out of trucks repeatedly. This position works outside in the seasonal weather; therefore, this position can work in a hot, humid environment or cold, damp environment and slippery surfaces. Must be willing to stand or walk on hard floors 8 – 10 hours per day. The candidate must be able to talk or hear for safety and productivity. The team member must have acceptable and / or correctable vision.
