Urbandale Community School District Adventuretime Team Leader (full-time) - Olmsted Elementary in Urbandale, Iowa

Purpose of Position : Supervise and participate in all aspects of the Adventuretime preschool and school age program involving activity planning, scheduling, and assistant team leader and associate staff supervision and teacher/parent communication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  2. Knowledge and skill in childcare / child development, including what children are capable of at different age levels; health.

  3. Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures.

  4. Knowledge of children’s activities that will get the child to use both their skill and imagination.

  5. Effective oral and written communication skills.

  6. Ability to plan, organize and implement program activities as well as participate in those activities.

  7. Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.

  8. Ability to be on time and follow through with responsibilities.

  9. Ability to serve as a positive role model for staff and children.

  10. Knowledge of and skill in managing on-site staff.

  11. Ability to anticipate problems and take preventive action.

B. Education

  1. High School Education and/or brief technical training outside of high school.

C. Certification/Licensure

  1. Current First Aid and CPR certification

  2. Current Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse Certification

  3. Current Blood Born Pathogens Certification

  4. Medication Administration Certification

D. Experience

  1. 1-2 years of childcare / child development experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

A. Maintain Accurate Records

  1. Incident Reports

  2. Medication/Allergy Paperwork

  3. Weekly Lesson Plans

  4. Building Schedules

  5. Monthly newsletters

  6. Monthly Snack Calendars

  7. Current Emergency Forms

  8. Field-Trip Receipts

B. Planning

  1. Organize, plan, and prepare activities for the children, including ordering and receiving needed materials for activities.

  2. Communicate lesson plans to assistant team leaders and associates, making sure they are implemented on a daily basis.

  3. Arrange field trips.

  4. Plan and prepare healthy daily snacks for children.

  5. Develop and implement positive behavior management plans that align with building expectations.

C. Staff Development

  1. Provide new staff orientation to assistant team leaders and associates.

  2. Conduct weekly building staff meeetings.

  3. Collaborate with other building team leaders to develop lesson plans weekly.

  4. Attend weekly team leader meetings and trainings scheduled by supervisors.

  5. Assist in planning and facilitating monthly staff trainings.

D. Communication

  1. Develop positive relationships and communicate effectively with schol staff, custodians, food service staff, teachers, principals, school secretaries, guidance counselors, and supervisors.

  2. Greet parents and students on whent ehy arrive and leave.

  3. Communicate positive and negative behaviors with parents on a daily basis.

  4. Provide parents with incident reports, newsletters, program changes or updates, upcoming events, and office contact information.

  5. Maintain confidentiality of children's records.

E. Site Safety

  1. Maintain clean, sanitary, orderly, and safe environment.

  2. Utilize space effectively to meet the needs of children.

  3. Maintain appropriate child/staff ratios at all times.

  4. Follow Food Safety/Sanitation guidelines when preparing and distributing snacks.

  5. Communicate individual student health (i.e. allergies, medications, asthma, etc.) plans to all staff.

F. Supplies

  1. Maintain accurate daily attendance records for the children.

  2. Organize, plan, and prepare activities for the children.

  3. Arrange field trips.

  4. Plan and prepare daily snacks for the children.

  5. Supervise and maintain accurate records (timesheets, etc.) for staff.

  6. Prepare monthly calendars and newsletters to be sent to parents to notifiy them of upcoming events, field trips, special projects or special things they need to do to prepare their children for school the next day.

  7. Provide appropriate reports for parents and other teachers.

  8. Order and maintain proper inventory of supplies, including shopping for materials if necessary.

G. Supervision

  1. Supervise children in classroom and outside activities; be able to resolve conflicts between children when they arise.

  2. Assist children with self-care needs when necessary and clean up after accidents in a discrete manner.

  3. Create a structured and organized environment for the children.

H. Follow established policies and procedures for the Adventuretime program.

I. Maintain a reliable attendance record.

J. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing, and evaluating.

B. Frequent walking, running, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting small children weighing from 20-60 pounds; using fingers, hands, feet, legs, and torso participating in various activities with children.

C. Drug, tobacco, and alcohol free while working.

D. Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

E. Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS

A. Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.

B. Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.
