This position will be providing support for 3 operating units within WR Berkley. The position involves the ability to gather business requirements; the development of custom spreadsheets, databases and reports; communication and interaction with both internal and external resources; strong support of actuarial initiatives including the development of SQL queries to develop data sets; must understand data conversion and reconciliation; high level understanding of actuarial analyses and special projects as assigned.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the capability to resolve routine data problems within a system or process

  • Ability to modify existing functionality or provide minor improvements with limited direction.

  • Demonstrates solid development processes including code review, documentation, and unit testing.

  • Demonstrates understanding of data processes and/or structures.

  • Will be required to communicate and coordinate within the Actuarial, Finance, Underwriting & IT teams.

  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and oversight of various databases, software, and other tools.

  • Provides support for actuarial analyses through data set up and initial observations.

  • Develops effective working relationships with our supported operating units, specifically the actuarial teams, through a demonstrated degree of knowledge, professionalism and enthusiasm.

  • 2+ years of experience in a data development experience; insurance experience preferred.

  • High level of proficiency in Excel and relational databases (such as SQL Server is required).

  • Exposure to, API’s, R, Python programming a plus

  • Exposure to Tableau or other business intelligence tool a plus

  • Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from members of the business communities.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong project management, organization and planning skills.

  • Ability to quickly assimilate and learn new systems and technologies.

  • Multi line property and casualty insurance knowledge preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in effective collaboration and providing a high degree of customer satisfaction.

  • Ability to effectively work in an environment with competing demands resources, time, and priorities.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; preferably in actuarial science, math or computer science.
