IT Technical Support Specialist

Location: Johnston, Iowa | Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to Chief Financial Officer

The IT Technical Support Specialist position is responsible for IT and Technical Support to local and remote employees. This position focuses on systems maintenance, installing computer hardware and software, responding to user requests for Technical Support, and well as ensuring security of company data.

  • Work with project management and accounting teams to answer questions and resolve IT issues; become a trusted source for all things IT by providing timely and effective solutions

Focus on End Goals

  • Provide primary help desk support, organization, and user training for all office equipment, servers, and software

  • Manage the IT section of onboarding and offboarding of local and remote employees

  • Perform secondary support for networking, LAN and WAN issues

  • Perform purchasing support tasks for the IT group including hardware and software

  • Perform majority of purchasing tasks for cell phone related items such as handsets and accessories

  • Manage and analyze cell phone accounts for best value, maintain lines of service needs

  • Troubleshoot and repair issues with various systems and services

  • Provide limited troubleshooting and support for IS/IT systems which include wide area network, remote office locations, landline Voice Over IP phone system within and between our locations, various servers and services, user computers, company cell phones, and miscellaneous technology devices

  • Manage implementation of new systems and system updates; including system set up, document process, and instruct employees on use

  • Maintain systems by applying feature updates, security updates, bug fixes, and preventative maintenance

  • Install, modify, and make minor repairs to computer hardware and software

  • Diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems, recommend or perform minor remedial action to correct issues

  • Setup and take down jobsite networks and phone systems as project start and finish

  • Maintain organized workspace

  • Adhere to company and department policies and procedures

  • Provide basic support for all departments as needed, along with other assigned duties

Drive Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and communicate those opportunities prudently and tactfully

  • Monitor metrics for system performance

  • Improve uptime and availability of networks and systems to increase reliability for end user

  • Suggest new technology to provide best in class solutions

  • Document IT processes as they evolve to assist in company-wide communication

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in computer field

  • Understanding of WAN and LAN technologies, including Ethernet, VPN, TCP/IP, and wireless

  • Strong communication and effective listening skills, inclusive of the ability to interact and work well across all levels of the company

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to adapt to multiple priorities in a changing environment

  • Effective contributor and team player

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Experience with Exchange and Active Directory required

  • Experience with all types of computer products

  • Experience with Windows server and Linux operating systems preferred

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needs arise

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional overnight travel by plane or car

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently in an office environment

  • Occasional activities of office environment include balancing, bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion

  • Occasional outdoor work in cold, hot, or dirty environments if installation needs dictate

  • Frequent activities of office environment include sitting, standing, walking, typing and other computer work, using telephone and other standard office equipment
