Urbandale Community School District Substitute Nurse in Urbandale, Iowa

Purpose of Position

We are seeking qualified individuals who are eager and available to serve as a substitute nurse. School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential (adopted by the NASN Board of Directors February 2017).

  1. Knowledge of security and emergency procedures.

  2. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

  3. Ability to relate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.

  4. Knowledge of district operations.

  5. Ability to organize varied tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

  6. Ability to handle diversity in an objective manner.

  7. Ability to interpret federal, state and local codes and maintain compliance.

  8. Ability to use computer software.

B. Education

RN or BSN

C. Certification/Licensure

RN Licensed in the State of Iowa

D. Experience

School and/or community experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Supervision of health duties delegated to health associates, para-professionals, associates and secretaries.

  2. Participates in the development District-Wide health and wellness curriculum review and evaluation, development and implementation.

  3. Provides standard of care, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation for student health conditions.

  4. Upholds the standards of professional nursing performance, including quality of care, performance appraisal, education, collegiality, ethics, collaboration, research, resource utilization, communication, program management and health education.

  5. Coordinating and integrating metropolitan health resources with district activities to enrich each student’s health education.

  6. Providing essential and emergency nursing service to the district’s students.

  7. Providing for and encouraging community involvement in the health education of its youth.

  8. Assists in development and implementation of health and wellness staff development efforts.

  9. Prepares informative materials for students, staff and community.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  11. Demonstrates effective implementation of the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria as a substitute in Urbandale classrooms.

  12. Demonstrates the ability to enhance academic performance in the building.

  13. Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the substitute position.

  14. Uses strategies to deliver support that meets the multiple learning needs of students.

  15. Uses a variety of methods to monitor student learning and demonstrates competence in management.

  16. Maintain a reliable attendance record.

  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Substitute nurses in the Urbandale Community School District earn $165/day or $82.50/half day.
