SUMMARY

The dietitian develops, communicates and implements programs that facilitate the provision of high quality and appropriate nutritional care to patients. Areas of responsibility include: assessment of nutritional needs, provision of medical nutrition therapy and nutritional education. May participate in community service by providing nutrition education to various groups or individuals in the community.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

  • Assess patients nutritional status and screens for potential nutrition risk.

  • Instruct patients/family in nutrition principles and prescribes diets, menus and food selection and preparation.

  • Assist patients with establishing and maintaining behavioral change goals related to diet.

  • Monitor the overall nutritional care of patients; makes appropriate recommendations for nutritional intervention while providing medical nutrition therapy.

  • Establish goals for nutrition care of patients, conducts assessments, and develops individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status through the continuum of care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or related field.

  • Two years of clinical practice experience preferred.

  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)

  • Possess current state license of certification as a Registered Dietitian

  • Must maintain continuing education requirements set by state licensure regulations and the commission on Dietetic Registration.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Computer literacy required
