Actalent Materials Engineer in Waterloo, Iowa

Job Title: Materials EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Materials Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for material testing, sample preparation, and conducting chemical analysis. This role involves daily maintenance of lab equipment, verifying equipment functionality, and supporting engineering processes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and section dry components using abrasive cutoff machines.

  • Evaluate materials under a microscope and perform chemical analysis.

  • Maintain lab equipment, ensuring coolant levels are correct and machines are operating properly.

  • Notify engineers when additional consumables need to be ordered.

  • Verify the proper operation of lab equipment.

  • Perform routine tests and analyses for process control and failure analysis.

  • Assist with problem identification and resolution, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.

  • Develop and validate test plans.

  • Provide guidance on test procedures to engineers and support personnel.

  • Operate and calibrate analytical equipment for various tests.

  • Maintain the production tooling system and complete shop orders.

  • Monitor and implement improvements in cutting, stamping, welding, machining, and assembly processes.

  • Maintain dimensional control of purchased components with precision instruments.

  • Create manufacturing programs for CNC machines.

  • Maintain chemical concentrations in paint washers.

  • Support the metallurgy lab by cutting parts, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, performing paint tests, and testing oil samples.

  • Input, communicate, and maintain engineering changes or other manufacturing information in the database.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of materials engineering, heat treatment, and material science.

  • Experience in manufacturing.

  • Ability to evaluate heat-treated and material samples.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, material science, materials engineering, or related field required.

  • Hands-on experience in a lab or material testing environment.

  • Experience working in metallurgical or materials labs.

  • Education and experience with heat treat processes and lab environments.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, first shift. The role involves working in a lab environment with various testing equipment and technologies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
