Working from the Waterloo IA Center of Excellence, the Purchasing Manager will work to source and procure material and manage the supply base for a thriving business. The role provides material planning and purchasing functions for an OEM of heavy industrial process machinery. Specifically, responsible for the sourcing of machined parts, fabricated components, motors, drive components, bearings, sensors, fasteners, seals, lubrication systems, etc. from outside and intercompany suppliers worldwide.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position supports a thriving aftermarket business and new heavy industrial equipment. This role provides leadership to the Waterloo purchasing team and coordinates with other plants to improve processes and drive efficiencies for CPM. This position will also work with the CPM Global Corporate Supply Chain team to develop new suppliers and best leverage our CPM worldwide production footprint.
Up to 40% travel will be required to suppliers and other CPM facilities.
Source, select, and develop supply base and on-time delivery of the supplier base
Determine domestic versus foreign sourcing (landed costs, exchange rates, etc.) strategy
Sets up global supply agreements that provide cost certainty and reduction of quoting volume with key suppliers.
Negotiate contracts with OEMs and distributors and support vendor/business partner relationships
Responsible for developing and maintaining cost estimates, forecasts, and cost models
Ensure understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership) on all purchases to increase best cost position.
Identify need for both low cost capacity of parts for projects and short lead time supply chains that enable aftermarket growth
Build cost models to aid in the forecasting and understanding of what parts and materials should cost
Define strategy for Inventory planning and control (set safety stock levels, lot quantities, etc.).
Design and optimize the MRP process for optimal inventory and service levels.
Create department metrics to measure performance including purchase-price-variance
Organize processes, procedures and working methods within the department, so that objectives and planning can be achieved.
Manage supplier’s performance and hold them accountable to pricing and on-time delivery
Work with manufacturing and quality teams to qualify new suppliers
Assist with the resolution of technical, quality, and receiving issues with suppliers and CPM resources.
Communicate effectively with manufacturing and engineering to ensure product quality
Clearly communicate to senior leaders (both internal and external), vendors and customers
Work with cross functional team to improve business processes including BOMs, drawing revisions, and related documentation to suppliers
Coordinate the different businesses to manage supplier relationships as One CPM
Create and issue purchase orders
Perform other duties as required and assigned by Plant Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business or related field
MBA, CPM, or CPSM (Certified Professionals in Supply Management) preferred
7+ plus years of progressive leadership roles within sourcing, supply chain, operations, or project management
Demonstrated experience in leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams, creating value for end customers, and driving operational excellence within areas of responsibility.
Strong financial acumen – the ability to utilize fundamental concepts of finance to manage budgets, forecast costs, and provide relevant information for data driven decision-making.
Creative thinking ability: It is essential that you can demonstrate originality and imagination in thinking while developing a solution to a problem
Communication skills: They must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and present technical information clearly and succinctly across a variety of communication settings and audience
Customer service skills: It is essential that you are customer focused – you must think and act from customer perspective
Detail-orientation: You must factor in every detail in proffering holistic solutions
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills: clarify and resolve complex business issues by breaking them down into meaningful components to determine root cause, and to redesign internal and external business processes where necessary. It is The ability to approach problems systematically and develop scalable solutions will be critical to succeeding in this role.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access) with PowerBI preferred
SAP Experience Preferred
Lean DNA experience preferred
Ability to use data to drive decisions
