Title: Senior Aftertreatment Development Engineer - 73980

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Aftertreatment Development Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will be responsible for guiding and executing PDP and ISDP development activities for aftertreatment catalyst components for all John Deere aftertreatment families. This position will provide technical leadership for performance development and integration of the aftertreatment system within the Performance and Emissions team. In addition, you will need:

  • To be a knowledge leader for catalyst development activities

  • Define aftertreatment system performance requirements and identify key inputs and interactions

  • Define aftertreatment control system functional requirements

  • Define physical and simulation-based test plans to characterize, calibrate, and verify component and system performance

  • Support technology development projects related to aftertreatment development and integration

  • Utilize Model Based Development (MBD) tools within the aftertreatment function and engine/aftertreatment integration. Perform complex analysis & simulation within the aftertreatment function and link simulation activities with verification of system requirements

  • Develop/Maintain backlog/schedule for aftertreatment development related activities

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Performance & Emissions engineers to spread knowledge of aftertreatment system performance/integration, test execution, and data analysis

What Skills You Need

  • 5+ Years of diesel engine performance and emissions development, aftertreatment or controls experience that demonstrates a strong technical proficiency in engines and emissions control technologies

  • 3+ Years of diesel engine aftertreatment experience related to DOC/DPF/SCR systems

  • 1+ Years of experience with GT Suite or similar tools and application to engine/aftertreatment simulation

  • 1+Years Matlab/Simulink experience

  • Demonstrated effective technical communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills such as presentations or shared project documentation to colleagues and management staff

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools

  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to provide work direction and guidance for catalyst development activities

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience with diesel aftertreatment catalyst modeling/simulation utilizing GT Suite or equivalent tools

  • Experience in two or more areas of engine development: Engine critical component development, performance, design, controls, product verification/validation

  • Experience with systems engineering and requirements development

  • Expert knowledge of DIAdem, MATLAB tools, or other data analysis software

  • MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, or Chemical Engineering


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, or Chemical Engineering

  • MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, or Chemical Engineering
