Waverly Health Center Emergency Services Manager 1.0 FTE in Waverly, Iowa

FTE 1.0, This position is responsible for the 24/7 management of the WHC Emergency Department and Ambulance Department. Hours are primarily day shift, but will vary based on the needs of the departments.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Emergency Services Manager is a leader who has the skills to deliver high quality evidence-based collaborative care to a wide range of patients. The Emergency Services Manager possesses clinical expertise in critical care patient management. The Emergency Services Manager has 24-hour clinical and administrative accountability for their areas of responsibility. Administrative responsibilities include management of finances, human resources, staffing, performance improvement, technology, and strategy. The Emergency Services Manager possesses broad based clinical and leadership skills including communication, mentoring, advocacy, systems thinking, critical thinking, accountability of self, peers and staff and establishment of a healthy work environment. Functions as a leader and role model in accordance with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Administration Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing, and Chapter 6 of the Iowa Nursing Practice Act for Registered Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), and the Iowa Department of Public Health EMS requirements, practices and service standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education, Experience, and Training

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa,

  • Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC,

  • Possess a valid Iowa Chauffer’s license and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Masters of Science in Nursing and certification in specialty area and/or nursing leadership preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of previous experience in specialty area preferred (emergency/critical care patient experience).

  • Previous management or leadership experience preferred.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of hazmat and emergency management procedures, use of emergency care equipment, emergency vehicle operation and maintenance, and Emergency Services procedures.

  • Must have demonstrated organizational abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and effective verbal and communication skills.

  • Must have demonstrated abilities to effectively lead complex teams in difficult situations.

  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.

  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

  • Physical Requirements

  • Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.

  • Standing– Approximately 50% of shift.

  • Walking – Approximately 50% of shift.

  • Lifting – Approximately 35 pounds. Must use, and require staff to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices.

  • Twisting – Infrequent.

  • Bending – Moderate.

  • Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.
