A day in the life of a Lab Assistant…
Demonstrates ability to consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
Obtains adequate blood specimens from patients using appropriate specimen collection and handling procedures.
Labels all specimens in accordance with clinical laboratory standards and Clinic policies and procedures.
Prepares specimens for delivery or delivers to appropriate laboratory areas.
Within scope of training, performs laboratory testing utilizing laboratory equipment in accordance with Clinic policies/procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
Performs Quality Controls and Quality Assurance within scope of testing.
Performs computer functions to support collection and processing of specimens.
Able to function proficiently within Centricity, Allscripts and Orchard systems.
Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through workshops, in-services, etc.
Maintains patient confidentiality and uses discretion in patient interactions.
Promotes a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally. Promotes positive interpersonal relations with all personnel.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Qualifications
License/Certifications: Phlebotomy but not required
Previous lab experience
