Purpose:
The Insurance Operations Accountant provides day-to-day support and administration of the organizations accounting functions as well as performs routine to moderate accounting tasks such as reconciliations, journal entries, data analysis and financial reporting. This Accountant role is in our Insurance Operations division and is part of the team which ensures accounting controls are in place for operational activity.
Accountabilities:
Conducts daily review of suspense activity and policy accounting, identifying discrepancies with detail research taking necessary steps in resolving in a timely manner; emphasis on the Pension Group Annuity business
Prepares monthly ledger account reconciliations
Reconciliation review and certification approver
Prepares and processes manual accounting journal entries
Serves as a content or technical resource within department and possesses key business understanding across other business units
Backs up other positions and performs other duties as assigned within the accounting unit.
Assists in project initiatives or is assigned to specific projects or tasks
Possesses the ability to work independently
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.
3 + years of professional experience in financial services field.
Minimum of 1+ years of applicable professional accounting experience.
Prefer prior policy accounting and monthly reconciliation experience.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to influence others and communicate across all areas of the Company.
Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities, and work effectively on multiple initiatives concurrently.
Experience providing information for all levels of management.
