Position Overview:

The Government Relations (GR) Director position is a position responsible for supporting government relations and community relations initiatives within Mediacom’s service area. Mediacom provides high-speed Internet, phone, and home automation services to residential and business customers. You will negotiate local franchises where necessary and assist in the preparation and filing of state franchise applications and reports as required in your assigned geographical area. The GR Director will also be responsible for communicating operational changes (pricing adjustments, channel additions/deletions, new product launches, etc.) to the communities served by Mediacom in your area, and expected to meet regularly with local government and community leaders regarding company initiatives. In addition, the Director will be expected to be an active participant in state and national trade association activities and actively lobby state and federal lawmakers on policies that impact our business. This will include regularly meeting with lawmakers, drafting legislations, testifying before legislative committees, and building coalitions with other stakeholders.

    Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with legal staff and operational team members on a wide range of issues.

  • ​Regular direct and indirect interaction with state and federal legislative and regulatory offices. This will include activities such as reviewing, drafting, and editing legislation/regulations and testifying before legislative committees.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for government officials seeking to engage the company.

  • Prepare and provide presentations for government and community leaders regarding company initiatives.

  • Regularly attend meetings with federal and state trade associations to learn about and discuss policy issues impacting our business and provide feedback regarding how policy issues impact Mediacom specifically.

  • Build coalitions with other interested stakeholders to positively impact policy outcomes.

  • Create goodwill for the company be developing and maintaining relationships with government and community leaders throughout our markets.

  • Maintain accurate and up to date contact list of government and community leaders.

  • Work with internal public relations team to respond to inquiries from local media.

    Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Eight or more years of government relations experience with direct telecommunications industry experience preferred.

  • In depth knowledge of telecommunications business including services offered, technologies utilized, and network operations.

  • Direct experience in legislative process including reviewing, drafting, and editing legislation, building coalitions of interested stakeholders, and providing testimony before legislative committees.

  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong negotiating skills.

  • Willingness to travel.
