Finance brings together enterprise functions that drive Wells Fargo's financial management, including accounting and control, financial planning and analysis, line of business finance, asset-liability management, treasury, tax management, and the company's investment portfolios. They also inform shareholders, regulators, taxing authorities, employees, and leaders of the company's financial performance through earnings releases, investor meetings and conferences, and meetings with regulators and credit rating agencies, following appropriate reporting guidelines.

The Capital Markets Finance team is looking for an innovative, results-oriented, strategic and analytical leader to join our team. This role will be responsible for leading a team which provides highly complex financial analysis and strategic partnership in support of the Portfolio Lending area within Capital Markets.

The Portfolio Finance Manager will act as a strategic thought partner to Home Lending’s Portfolio lending leadership, the head of Wells Fargo Home Lending Capital Markets and the SVP of Wells Fargo Home Lending Capital Markets Finance, and will lead all aspects of supporting the Wells Fargo Home Lending (WFHL) on-balance sheet held for investment residential mortgage loan portfolios from a Finance perspective. This role will provide thought leadership in supporting the business to optimize portfolio and capital returns. It will drive pricing of new portfolio originations, expansion of products such as Home Equity, development of executive presentation material, forecasting, collaborating with other Wells Fargo business groups such as Wealth Management, analyzing product profitability, creating internal management accounting and portfolio accounting structure. This Manager will lead a team of 11 consultants supporting the Non-Conforming, Home Equity, and Non-Core Portfolios for Home Lending. This position will report directly to the SVP of WFHL’s Capital Markets Finance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic partner to Portfolio Lending leadership, interfacing with all levels of executive leaders, identifying portfolio opportunities, optimizing portfolio and capital returns.

  • Support Portfolio Line of Business leadership in coordination of monthly executive presentations, developing content which effectively messages the story behind the financial results, at an appropriate level of detail for executive level audiences

  • Provide primary point of contact for business leaders and finance leaders on a wide range of topics related to Portfolio results, serving as expert consultant on highly complex financial issues spanning the portfolios

  • Actively lead, develop and evaluate solutions to a wide range of highly complex financial problems and business activities; anticipate issues based on knowledge of business trends and accounting treatments

  • Identify, analyze and report/monitor the financial impact of proposed strategic business initiatives

  • Research and report on financial results, identify underlying performance drivers, and perform complex variance and trend analysis

  • Guide optimization strategy within portfolio pricing that encompasses volume elasticity expectations in response to pricing changes. Evaluate and recommend pricing adjusters, and perform a key role in identifying model assumptions.

  • Develop monthly forecasts, including alignment of volume, attrition, and market size

  • Assess the reasonableness of complex Portfolio forecasting models, and develop sophisticated methodology to support results and/or adjustments to those models, in support of the forecasting process

  • Conduct in-depth research of Portfolio data and analyze, interpret and report findings

  • Perform ongoing ad-hoc analysis to quantify financial risk exposures

  • Manage functional tasks and ongoing Financial processes including AU and general ledger maintenance, Product Profitability cost component updates, WIM/WFHL Portfolio arrangement, Production Credit payments to the sales channels, and FAS91 cost deferral analytics

  • Lead and manage a diverse, highly effective team of 11-12 finance consultants, driving consistent and efficient finance processes

  • Manage risk effectively through strong controls and processes

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics or reporting

  • 2+ years of leadership experience

Desired Qualifications

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting

  • Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization

  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience

  • Mortgage banking experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of mortgage portfolio analysis or management

  • Leadership experience with ability to effectively manage and engage teams

  • Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand, environment while balancing multiple priorities

  • Highly refined and professional verbal and written communications

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access) skills

  • Hyperion Essbase experience

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Experience providing Finance leadership of balance sheet portfolios

  • Experience pricing mortgage portfolios

  • Proven ability to take a global view to grow portfolios and optimize returns

  • Experience building forecast presentations with a clear, concise narrative focused on strategic themes and calls to action

  • Experience developing and executing communication strategies by collaborating with large, matrixed teams

  • Ability to articulate a complex problem, design, or build strategy

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills combined with strategic business focus.

  • Highly effective consultative leader with a strong presence and credibility as a result of demonstrating strong business and financial acumen.
