UnityPoint Health Technical Privacy Analyst in West Des Moines, Iowa

The Technical Privacy Analyst oversees the centralized system privacy auditing and monitoring program for UnityPoint Health (UPH). This includes data analytics, database management, auditing, investigations, workflows and training tools. Responsible for trending and analysis of the privacy auditing program, audit documentation and developing related reports. In addition to auditing within UPH, provides oversight and support of privacy auditing for Community Connect hospitals and third parties with access to UPH electronic medical record database.

Program Management

  • Manage the centralized privacy audit process.

  • Develop education and reference materials that promote accurate and effective use of auditing software, investigation of cases and appropriate documentation.

  • Conducts initial review of all identified potentially inappropriate access and determines appropriate action plan

  • Collaborate with regional privacy officers to develop audit reports, analyze results and document to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct risk assessments of privacy incidents compliant with HIPAA privacy rules.

  • Design and implement system wide reports to show auditing practices and results for UPH affiliates.

  • Monitor effectiveness of privacy auditing program to ensure overall value; recommending changes as indicated.

  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Community Connect hospitals supporting their auditing program and investigations

  • Provide support and guidance related to third party auditing

  • Keep apprised of federal and state laws and regulations in order to ensure UPH compliance.

Technical Support

  • Serve as auditing expert advisor to regional privacy officers and Community Connect hospitals

  • Provide leadership to the regional privacy officers and Community Connect hospitals that encourage consistent analysis and documentation of privacy audits.

  • Serve as subject matter expert for interpretation of access logs and interface elements

  • Develop analytic reports and dashboards to monitor effectiveness of auditing program and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Develop reports as requested from affiliates and Community Connect hospitals to provide information to help improve operations.

  • Collaborate with software vendor to troubleshoot identified issues and explore opportunities for improvement


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or direct and applicable work experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Project management experience.

  • Healthcare, compliance, auditing, monitoring, data collection, analysis, privacy and/or information security experience.


  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft products and other software applications used for auditing & program management.

  • Proficient in use of Power BI and Excel preferred
