    TITLE: District Maintenance -Grounds DEPARTMENT: Building and Grounds REPORTS TO: Director or Building and Grounds RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of Building and Grounds & Superintendent BASIC FUNCTION: Maintain grounds for staff and the public so that they are kept in safe operating condition. Perform general maintenance to resolve immediate operation and/or safety concerns and provide for preventative maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.

  • Ability to function within the framework of a school environment.

  • Maintain certifications as determined by supervisor.

  • Must clear criminal and child abuse background check.

  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work.

  • Current CDL and other necessary school bus permits.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, training commensurate with position desired.

  • Preferred experience in maintenance and grounds services or related experience.

    Performance Skills:

  • Applies pesticides and/or chemicals for the purpose of ensuring spraying is done in compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.

  • Cleans grounds and related areas (e.g. gutters, drains, filters/screens, snow removal etc.)

  • Inspects grounds and equipment (e.g. playground equipment, fences, irrigation systems, etc. )

  • Maintains landscaping (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, planted areas, irrigation, fences, concrete areas, playground, etc.) for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive, and safe condition.

  • Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safer operation condition.

  • Performs general maintenance work for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition.

  • Prepares necessary documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

  • Prepares grounds and athletic fields.

  • Procures equipment, supplies, and materials for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase of maintaining the inventory of district owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.

  • Repairs various items, systems, and/or components (e.g. maintenance equipment, waterlines, irrigation system, etc) for the purpose of ensuring the items are available and in safe working condition.

  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  • Upgrades skills and knowledge in order to meet changing maintenance needs of the district.

  • Adheres to safety practices

  • Works under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or procedures.

  • Operates within a budget

  • Assists other maintenance personnel for the purpose of supporting them in completion of necessary work tasks.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Completes essential in-service training (e.g. blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, etc.) and utilizes those procedures during the course of work.

  • Maintains appropriate appearance and attire for the school environment.

  • Keeps work area clean and organized.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Terms of Employment: Wage and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement. Physical Requirements: Significant bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, climbing ladders, shoveling snow and walking. A physical fit health physical may be requested by the District at the District’s choice of health facility and cost. Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
