Job Description

This is a non-merit position with the Dept of Human Services - Woodward Resource Center. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

This position is located in Woodward, Iowa.

This position serves as the Medical Director for the Woodward Resource Center and is responsible for providing supervision, consultation, guidance, and training to the medical staff to insure patient care, medical practices and ethical standards are adhered to and to insure patient care meets best practice standards.

Provides direct supervision to physician, physician assistants, psychiatrist, and other medical specialties, as well as consultants who work at WRC through personal service contracts. Plans, develops, coordinates, and supervises implementation of medical services to meet needs of the facility and Individuals served at WRC.

Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the professional performance of medical staff members to assure all practice is within the scope of privileges granted to them and that all Individuals served by WRC receive the same level of quality patient care. Provides full range of supervisory responsibilities, including personnel actions related to recruitment, hiring, firing, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, leaves, work schedules, and assignments. Enforces medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations. Integrates processes for improved delivery of medical services with other clinical/nursing staff.

Manages small caseload and responds to the interdisciplinary team for Individuals on the caseload. Develops medical treatment plans and assumes responsibility for plan execution to maintain and improve physical or mental health.

Develops medical staff on-call assignments to insure coverage of medical care 24/7 and acts as "medical officer of the day"(MOD) on assigned medical staff rotation. In this capacity is responsible for appropriate medical activities/functions during assigned shift. Has responsibility for researching and responding in a timely manner to questions by staff regarding medical policies/procedures and processes.

8-4:30pm Monday -Friday, on-call coverage required

Must maintain current licensure as a Physician by the State of Iowa

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
